My Story

Meet Ernest!

Ernest was in the care of the SPCA Good Shepherd Barn before coming to us. He has serious mobility issues and while he has come a long way under their care, he needed long term sanctuary. That's where we come in.

At the SAINTS sanctuary Ernest has his own stall and can move about freely inside it. He refused to leave his stall at the Good Shepherd Barn and we expect the same with us, at least for awhile. Hopefully in time he will understand that he is safe, that the whole barn is safe, and though he hasn't wanted to go outside at all in months, our entire property is safe for him.

As a matter of fact, the reason we exist at all is for animals like him.

Ernest is about 8 years old and has clearly had a horribly traumatic life experience. He has some extreme fear that will take time to undue. Through the efforts of the staff at the previous shelter Ernest can now eat and drink on his own, and with the help of daily medication he can now stand and walk, albeit not far. He has put on weight and learned to not only trust the staff, but look forward to their company. It won't happen right away but with the positive steps he made with the SPCA, we hope he will accept us as friends as well.
