My Story

Meet Hobby. In October of 2023, we were contacted by the owners about taking in two cats. The family was moving and couldn’t bring them. Simon was a suspected diabetic.

We discussed them at length at the sanctuary. These boys are bonded, so even though Hobby doesn’t have diabetes, both would need to live in our small cat room. That’s 9 cats in a room that should hold 5 or 6 (we were already over that with 7). So, we offered alternative suggestions (including a vet visit for a confirmed diagnosis) and hoped the owners could figure something out.

What they decided to do was to surrender the cats to a pet store. Simon’s diabetes, that had been officially diagnosed but wasn’t being treated. The pet store started to realize these two were not going to be easy adoptions. They are clearly senior. Both overweight. Matted. And quite aways from healthy. So they reached out.

We recognized the cats immediately. We were beside ourselves in shock. Simon had been diagnosed with diabetes not started treatment yet and Hobby is missing his front right leg. At some point in his life it was surgically removed. He has significant arthritis pain and needs to start some pain management.

Hobby pain is being managed and Simon diabetes is being managed.
