Meet Pumpkin
Sweet, gentle, and finally safe.
Pumpkin is a senior Australian Shepherd mix who came to SAINTS Rescue in heartbreaking condition. She was found abandoned in a field next to our sanctuary, lying motionless on a small towel, with no collar, no leash, and no sign of an owner. When our staff approached her, she didn’t get up—she simply lay there with her hind legs stretched behind her, exhausted and in pain.
Pumpkin was severely underweight, her coat was heavily matted, and she had a large, ulcerated tumour on her lower abdomen that was actively leaking. Despite her suffering, she allowed gentle handling and remained calm and sweet through it all.
She has no tattoo or microchip, and we suspect she may have lived much of her life outdoors. She didn’t seek out the comfort of a bed when we brought her in—only the coolness of the concrete floor, perhaps soothing the pain of her tumour.
Pumpkin is now under our care, receiving the medical attention she so badly needed. She is on a carefully managed diet to safely restore her weight and is recovering in a quiet space at the sanctuary. Her personality is gentle and kind—she’s been friendly with people and dogs alike, despite everything she’s endured.
Her journey is not over yet, and she continues to need support as she heals. But here at SAINTS, Pumpkin will never be alone again. She is loved, protected, and finally getting the care every animal deserves.
Every animal, given the right home, could be placed in foster care or adopted. To find out if one of our animals could be a fit for you, please email adopt@saintsrescue.ca to start a conversation.
