Meet Zoey

Zoey - female GSD - born approx 2018

My Story

This is Zoey. She was taken to one of our partner clinics for euthanasia. The vet stared at the sweet, senior, obviously neglected dog who had rested her head in her lap... and refused. Luckily the staff were able to convince the owners to surrender her directly to them instead. None of them could fathom putting this dog down. Zoey is very underweight. She has a terrible bacterial skin infection that has been left untreated for far too long. She has been bred numerous times. For the first few days she ate and drank like she hasn't seen food or water in a VERY long time. Zoey doesn't seem to know much about leash walking, very possibly she was a backyard dog.

With such poor body condition we have to start her on a refeeding plan, with several small meals as her body and mind get used to having food again. She also needs a hypoallergenic diet as we don't know what caused her skin infection in the first place (but given that she looks like she's at least in part GSD we are pretty safe to assume food/protein allergies). She's had bloodwork and xrays, and a couple baths with medicated shampoo (which will be an ongoing part of her treatment plan). Zoey is now on medication to control her pain and discomfort due to being itchy, antibiotics for the serious infection, and has been given parasite control and vaccines. Once she is healthy we will have her spayed. With a bit of luck, in time, maybe even a new family. For now Zoey is scared, overwhelmed and needs to decompress.

Nobody deserves to be used and neglected like this.

Welcome to your new life Zoey. We got you.
