My Story

Mystic came in 2010 as a 3 month old palliative puppy. She had been diagnosed with bilateral renal dysplagia, a congenital defect with a life expectancy of less than one year.

Because she was palliative, and absolutely adorable, no one ever told her "No" - and we pretty much let her do whatever she wanted. So Mystic grew up doing whatever she wanted whenever she wanted. She actually grew up to be a totally awesome dog (except for a bunch of chewed couches, and channel changers, and window trims, and flooring, and mattresses.) But other than that she was great!

We had a huge 1st birthday party for her including her very own cake. For her 2nd birthday we sent her back to the vet for some more diagnostics because Mystic seemed healthy and was not dead yet. Well big surprise... the diagnostics revealed that while both of her kidneys were completely deformed on the outside, on the inside they actually worked pretty damn well.

Mystic had grown up at SAINTS doing whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted. There was no way she was going to be happy living in mini van suburbia following a bunch of rules. She was a completely free spirit living life the way she wanted to. So Mystic became a permanent resident and has lived every single day to its absolute fullness. She is one of the happiest, well grounded dogs i have ever met. She is a huge favorite with all of the staff, volunteers and visitors. She is a SAINTS icon at her very best.

As of 2020, Mystic is now 10 years old. Sh recentl became diabetic, developed glaucoma and cataracts, and became completely blind. She didn't really seem to care. She just kept doing Mystic. But... we cared. We wanted to restore her sight. So back in May of this year Mystic had surgery on both eyes. After 2 long months of recovery and trying to keep her resting and quiet, she is finally free to take back her life. The surgery was successful in restoring the vision in only one of her eyes. The other remains sightless due to the damage to the optic nerve caused by the glaucoma. Still one working eye is better than none. Mystic can see.
