My Story

We all behave differently when we are stressed out. What could be more stressful than being alone on the street, then being picked up by a stranger and taken to a busy, crowded shelter? Phyllis was definitely very stressed. She was also lucky, she just didn’t know it yet.

Phyllis was dropped off at Delta Community Animal Shelter as a stray. DCAS was full, but they could not turn away this thin, senior, skittish matted mess of a dog.

Right away Phyllis had severe separation anxiety. She barked, panted, ripped up pee pads, jumped the xpen, had stress diarrhea.

The shelter did some preliminary vetting and found she also has a heart murmur and desperately needs dental surgery. All of these things combined meant Phyllis needed a transfer out.

Phyllis arrived at SAINTS Tuesday evening. She was no doubt overwhelmed yet right away her sweet personality was starting to shine through. She would still bark for a minute when left alone but was settling in. By Wednesday morning she was a rock star! Eating well, playing, great with the other dogs, solid poops.

One of our long term foster families wanted to meet Phyllis that day, and wouldn’t you know it, it was a match! Phyllis was given a new name to go with her new life, Hailey.

Hailey moved into permanent foster care today. She joins Joey, Jameela, and SAINTS alumni Ruby in Jamie and Darrell’s home.

Congratulations on winning the lottery Hailey! She went from a lost little stray to a much loved family member in a forever home in 10 days!

Thank you for saving her DCAS!
