it was a total displaced femoral fracture. the vet said her bones looked pretty thin on xray and asked if she got enough calcium in her diet. they are free fed on duck and goose pellets and were on baby duck food when they were small so he said that was enough calcium for them. but meat birds are bred to carry most of their weight in meat, not in bones..their bones are not worth anything on the market so it stands to reason that their bones are purposely light so more money is made on the total weight of their meat bodies.
so utterly sad..at eight months old, she could not even mate without the act snapping her bones.
quiet is alone now...that makes me even more sad.
at least she got to be a duck, for a little while.
rest in peace sweet innocent girl.
I think this sweet duck's name is very fitting. Perhaps her story will encourage your regular readers to spread the word about how ducks are raised and butchered for food and perhaps her death will lead to even one person leaving other ducks and chickens and turkeys in "peace".
