Day 3 of Volunteer Week - Meet saints weekend warriors Dawn and Laura & Brianne

Jenn  ·  Apr. 8, 2014

It’s day three of Volunteer Week and as promised we are bringing you features of some of our amazing volunteers.

Dawn can be found leading tours on weekends or working diligently in Adoptions trying to find our animals a forever home. She also works full time in collections, enjoys the UFC and pole fitness, and on top of all that, she loves to foster SAINTS dogs. Dawn found SAINTS six years ago; this long- time, loyal volunteer has never let the grief she feels over the losses stop her from returning to or helping the place she loves. Her spirits are lifted by the dedication shown by all the volunteers and by her firm belief that SAINTS is a fantastic place! Clearly, Dawn has a special love for senior animals- “They inspire me to be a better person and to live life to the fullest.” Her fondest memory is of her daughter in a loafing shed with not one, but two, barely 24 hour old calves. Dawn said it was quite a sight to see her laying with them for comfort during the Open House. Although Todd is no longer with us at SAINTS, a wind chime was placed in the memorial garden by Dawn and her daughter in his memory. When asked if there were any animals that have touched her heart in particular, she thought about the 8 dogs she has fostered…her Trudy, Princess Poopy Pants, True the old boxer girl, have most definitely taken the biggest chunk of her heart on the way to the rainbow bridge. Dawn’s three words for the place she loves: Heaven on Earth.

The mother and daughter team, Laura and Brianne, have been volunteering at SAINTS for six years. They were hooked after coming to one Open House. Brianne is most definitely Kind, loving and out- going whereas Laura describes herself as shy, likeable, and loving. They can be found on Saturdays in the bunny and medical rooms, cuddling the rabbits and making sure everyone is cleaned and looked after. They definitely ensure the animals are cozy and well fed! This duo finds it difficult when new comers arrive that are very ill. But it means so much to Laura when she sees the smile that Brianne shows when they are on the way to volunteer. When not hanging with the bunnies, Laura is busy with her 3 children and doing lunch hour duty at Heritage Park high school ( now that’s brave ;) Brianne is in Grade 12, works at Silvercity, and loves to dance. Their favorite memory is when they took their very own SAINT home- Beau. When asked to describe SAINTS? “ AMAZING, One-Of-A-Kind, the BEST!
